"That there's a fightin' word," said the Academic

I was walking down the street when I saw a crowd of people listening to a man who was standing on a milk crate. I approached to find out what he was saying that could so captivate the passersby and deter them from their journey.

The speaker said "Buddha."

Then he said "Allah."

After that, with no sympathy for those around him, the speaker said "Yaweh," a clear reference to Judaism.

Of course, I immediately pushed through the crowd and demanded an apology from the speaker. How dare he make reference to a religion of which I am not a member? Did he not know the psychic damage he was causing? Did he not understand the rank insensitivity that inevitably accompanies any reference to a belief system not shared by EVERYONE present?

Evidently he did not.

But all's well that ends well, as me and some of the other onlookers beat the man to death.

Over at Dartmouth (pronounced un-couth) they are having a similar problem. It seems that a duly elected class president gave a speech which referenced Jesus. He evidently did this with full knowledge that some in the audience did not share his belief that Jesus is the Son of God. Then, like holy water on a vampire, the secular leftists began to steam. Feelings were hurt. Petitions were unsheathed. The President of Dartmouth weighed in, expressing his disapointment.

Plans to burn the Student Body President at the stake were unconfirmed at the time of this posting.
